I am writing this as the City of Philadelphia is waking up and fans of the Super Bowl champs are getting ready to take over the city for the Big Parade. Over a million and a half people are expected to fill the streets as the parade heads up Broad Street and over to the Art Museum.
Never in my life did I imagine that the Eagles would win one, let alone two Super Bowls. After destroying the Washington Commanders for the NFC championship and then completely dominating the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, we’re ready to celebrate the greatest Eagles team in modern history. Maybe forever.
Growing up in Philly we’ve had our share of sports heartbreaks over the years.
The most recent debacle, that “trust the process” shit that the Sixers and Sam Hinkie sold us - forget about it. It started with Simmons and Embiid. We learned quickly that Simmons was/is a hack, and Embiid…..??? It remains to be seen, but I am not optimistic that he’ll lead the Sixers to a championship. (but we lover Tyrese).
Thankfully though, I’ve been a fan blessed to have lived through the two Broad Street Bully-era Flyers Stanley Cup championships in ‘74 and ‘75 (I was in high school). Dr. J and Moses Malone brought the third NBA champhionship to the city in ‘83. Then there were the Phillies ‘80 and 2008 World Series victories that we continue to savor. And now, the Birds have brought the Lombardi trophy back to Philly.
I was one of the Eagles fans who was certain we’d blow the Chiefs out. In early February I took to the socials with my prediction. Ok. I guess I got lucky w/ my score. While I was overly confident going into the game, the morning of the Super Bowl I woke up terrified. But The Birds did it.
So with that, I raise a toast to The Birds and my fellow fans. We’ve beaten Brady and Belichick, Andy Reid and Mahomes. So yeah. Today is our day.
E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles!!!!!!
We’ve got some great music here also.
